Examples of what we fund

You can apply for funding grants of up to £10,000. Funding is only guaranteed for 12 months.

The grant can fund the whole of your project or be used in combination with other funding streams. Please make it clear in your bid if you are combining this funding with other sources and state what those other sources are.

The grant can cover short-term running and delivery costs such as: 

  • training
  • resources
  • venue hire
  • crèche
  • staffing or volunteering costs
  • transport
  • purchasing of equipment
  • facilitative costs (for example, overheads and cost of produce)

What we do not fund

  • individuals
  • general appeals
  • the direct replacement of statutory funding
  • political groups or activities promoting political beliefs
  • religious groups promoting religious beliefs
  • projects with no community element
  • medical research, equipment, or treatment
  • projects that take place before an application can be processed
  • activities that raise funds for other organisations
  • fundraiser’s salaries

Community Centres, Cafés and Hubs, Village Halls, YMCA

Eat Well Spend Less is a six-week basic cookery, nutrition, and budget management course. To learn more about these courses visit the Trussell Trust website

Community Cafés are a great way of connecting with the community and developing skills and experience through engaging with people in kitchen and café activities. Visit the Community and Food Health website to view a range of stories from community cafés in Scotland.

Community Fridges

Square Food Foundation run sociable cooking groups for all ages. Visit their Community Cooking webpage to read about these different groups.

Food on Prescription - FoodCycle

Primary and Secondary Schools

Cook School’s mission is to help children to understand food, teach children how to cook basic, healthy meals and give them the skills and the confidence to repeat cook at home for their family and friends. Visit the Cook School website to learn more about their courses.

Supporting Homelessness

The Café From Crisis website shares information about how they provide food and catering training opportunities for people experiencing homelessness.

Older Adults

Visit the Age UK Healthy Eating webpage to learn about food and nutrition projects for older people. One example is the Kitchen Kings project which is aimed at helping older men to prepare and cook wholesome food.
