About the community food grant

This grant aims to support existing and upcoming community food projects in North Somerset.

We welcome applications from projects that encourage:

  • access to nutritious and affordable food
  • healthy eating
  • improved food knowledge and skills

The term ‘healthy eating’ refers to advice within the Eatwell Guide and, for under 5s, the Eat Better, Start Better guidance. Projects should also focus on the social, cultural and dietary needs in the population they aim to reach. Projects for all age groups will be considered.

Projects that have a dual aim of improving physical health and that also seek to create wider social or climate benefits, such as improving community cohesion or reducing food waste, will also be considered.

We welcome applications from:

  • voluntary organisations
  • charities
  • not-for-profit organisations
  • community groups
  • youth clubs
  • social enterprises for example, community fridges, food clubs, community hubs, community cafés, cooking schools, food surplus groups, men’s sheds, maternal health groups
  • community focused projects that operate within community settings such as, community centres, family centres, youth centres, children’s centres, nurseries, schools, further education settings, leisure centres, village halls and faith settings

Projects should be aimed at residents in North Somerset and be able to go live by 1 July 2023.
