Speeding

We set the speed limits on the roads across the district. The police are responsible for enforcing them.

Before we set a limit we take different factors into account, including the number of recorded collisions in the area. In villages we look at where local facilities are, and the numbers of pedestrians who use the roads.

We promote safer driving campaigns to help motorists understand the impact of speed and achieve safer driving by consensus rather than enforcement.

We use vehicle activated signs to warn motorists of their speed. Traffic calming is also introduced to areas where we identify the need to slow down vehicles for safety reasons. Contact us if you think there is a strong case for traffic calming in your area.
