Work for Shared Lives

Shared Lives is for people who need support and who want to receive their support in a family home. They can stay for a day, stay for a short break or stay long term. Being matched with a Connecting Lives carer or support worker offers consistency and the opportunity to build positive relationships with the same person.

Who provides the support

Shared Lives support is provided by self-employed professional Connecting Lives carers and support Workers.  They have relevant life experience and training, and are committed to help people to live more independently. Connecting Lives carers and support workers come from all family types and all walks of life.

Shared Lives day support

Day support is for people who need care and support during the day in a carers home. It can include trips out and activities in the community.

Day support payment

The Shared Lives day support payment is £14.50 per hour. 

You can support up to three people at the same time as long as you are able to meet the needs of the people you are supporting.

Short breaks support

Short breaks support is for people who need occasional or regular breaks in a home-from-home setting. Short breaks can be anything from one night to several days.

Connecting Lives carers providing Shared Lives short breaks placements are paid a 24 hour fee of £91.38 to £146.18 to support someone in their own home. This fee is based on the needs of the person you are supporting. Connecting Lives carers are also paid a daily utility and food contribution of £9 per day from the person who receives support.

Shared Lives long term support

Long term support is for people with care and support needs who are looking for somewhere to live in a family home. It can also be a stepping-stone to living independently.

Connecting Lives carers providing Shared Lives long term placements are paid between £26,343 and £41,686 a year to support someone living with them long term. Connecting Lives carers are also paid a weekly utility and food contribution of £63 per week from the person who receives support.

Tax breaks

Connecting Lives carers providing Shared Lives placements get a generous tax-break. The tax break is on the first £18,140 you earn plus an extra £450 per week tax-free for every additional person you support. You can support up to three people at one time.
