We are part of an energy minerals working group with Bath and North East Somerset Council, Somerset County Council and the Environment Agency.
The group has written a topic paper which gives information on energy minerals, in particular hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and coal bed methane extraction, to help our minerals related planning policy development.
Some of the land belonging to the above organisations has been granted petroleum and exploration licences by the government. These licences allow companies to explore for oil and gas resources. Licences do not give permission to drill or perform any other operations.
We have not yet received any planning applications for extraction of shale gas by fracking.
