Time commitments

We would expect any organisation to dedicate one day per week to the project to fulfil the expectations outlined in the brief. This will be flexible and more time can be spent in some weeks than others.

Staffing and project lead

This role can be filled by more than one person in your organisation, or in partnership with another organisation. It is important to identify a key contact who will act as the lead on the project. This lead will work closely with the SPHL project worker (Laura Flanagan) and the Council.

Other people within the organisation are also allowed to support, and their time can be included in the funding.

Project meetings and attendance

Your organisation will need to keep in regular contact with the SPHL Project Worker, Laura Flanagan. This will be via email, Teams meetings, and some in-person meetings/planning sessions.

To start, these meetings may be more regular or for a longer period of time (once per week). When the Community Anchor Organisation begins, we expect there will be

  • catch-up meetings every 2-3 weeks
  • a longer project meeting every 6 weeks

The Community Anchor organisation will also need to engage other local organisations in project planning. This can be either via separate meetings or as part of existing meetings in the local area. We are keen to be flexible about this to ensure there isn’t a meeting overload.

All meetings can be covered within the £9000 allocation for time spent on the project.

Action plan and ideas

The SPHL project is about adding value and building on to existing provision and ideas. We also encourage the development of new initiatives and ideas that will address how we can improve food security for local residents.

An important part of this process is creating an SPHL action plan. This should focus on what we can do to address some of the root causes of food insecurity in Weston Central and South Ward.

The funding should not be used to complete work or develop ideas that were already in development, or that are funded by an external source.

Funding and payment

We will not be asking the successful organisation to detail/evidence time spent on this project (such as hours per week). The organisation will sign an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) confirming their agreement to dedicate the time needed on this project. 

How you will be paid

Payment of the £9000 funding will be made in 3 instalments.

  • £3000 will be made upfront (after signing the project MoU)
  • £3000 at the sixth month
  • £3000 at twelfth month

The payments will be made directly from North Somerset Council.

Additional funding

The Anchor Organisation information mentions £20,000 will also be available to trial new initiatives/approaches around tackling food insecurity. 

The use of the £20,000 will be decided in partnership between:

  • the Community Anchor organisation
  • North Somerset Council
  • the SPHL Project Worker
  • the local SPHL project group (including community organisations and residents).

There is currently no set process for the allocation and use of this funding. It is important that organisations and residents with lived experience of food insecurity contribute to this decision.

The SPHL project worker and local Policy and Partnership Team at North Somerset Council will work to resolve any conflicts of interest between the Anchor Organisations and any recipients of the £20,000 funding.
