Meet the SEND service

This page will tell you about the teams who can help you with support and guidance.

Our SEND teams

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) team

If your child has special educational needs, we're responsible for managing the statutory assessment process and offer advice on:

  • the assessment criteria and process used to identify additional needs
  • how resources are used to help support children with additional needs
  • requests for specialist equipment and support for pupils moving into the local area

Transitions team

The Transitions Team can help young people with SEND prepare for adulthood.

Post-16 team

The post-16 team can help you decide what you’d like to do once you leave school in year 11.

SENDCAS

SENDCAS is our clubs and activities services for children and young people with SEND in North Somerset.

SAY: SEND and You

SAY: SEND and You is our information and advice service for families and children and young people with SEND.

SEND Council

The SEND Council is made up of young people with SEND in the local area. They make sure the voice of young people is heard. They discuss issues important to young people with SEND, and speak to the council to let them know how to make their services for people with SEND even better.

SEND Improvement Board

The SEND Improvement Board makes sure we provide the best support for children with SEND in North Somerset.

It meets once every school term, bringing together members of the local authority, health, education, the voluntary sector and representatives from parent carer forums.

The goal of the SEND Improvement Board is to make improvements for SEND in line with the SEND Strategy, SEND Improvement Plan, and the Joint Local Area Review process run by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission.

Community of Practice

The Community of Practice is a multi-agency working group that meets once every two months. We collaborate on what we think services for children and young people with SEND should look like in the local area. We have members from health, education, social care, SEND services and more.

Support for residents and professionals

There are lots of teams in our children’s services who work with residents and professionals across areas including:

  • family support and safeguarding
  • education
  • learning and development
