The electoral register

When you register to vote, your name gets put on the electoral register, which is a list of people eligible to vote.

Full electoral register

The full electoral register has the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote. It cannot be sold to anyone. Your details would only be used for electoral purposes or supplied to:

  • prevent and detect crime
  • call you for jury service
  • check applications for loans and credit

The full electoral register is not provided to other departments of the council (e.g., council tax). If you’ve moved, you will also need to contact other council departments to inform them.

Open register

The open register is a version of the electoral register which can be bought by any person, company, or organisation.

Your name and address are included on the open register unless you ask for them to be removed when you register.

If you wish to remove your details from the open register, please contact us with your name and full address saying that you would like your details removed from the open register. This will not affect your right to vote.
