Responses to the consultation will help the Council further review the scheme design before it is finalised, ready to be submitted to planning later in the year.
Cllr Steve Bridger, Executive Member for Assets and Capital Delivery said: “Banwell bypass is an eagerly awaited scheme that can alleviate traffic congestion in Banwell whilst creating a host of other opportunities to enhance the local area.
“I am pleased that we can now share our progress on the scheme, so that you have another chance to tell us what you think in this second public consultation.
“Our consultation booklets show the effort that’s gone into design of the bypass, new routes for walking, cycling and horse riding, ways we can protect habitats and boost biodiversity and much more.
“Your feedback to date has played a vital role in shaping and focussing the designs presented today. That is why we continue to go above and beyond to hear from you, holding a second public consultation, so you can help us further refine our proposals ready for planning submission.
“Every response we receive is important, so that we can deliver a scheme that works for our residents now and in future.”
The Council will be holding four drop-in information sessions during the consultation period, where residents can ask questions about proposed designs. These sessions are open to all and will be held in the villages of Banwell, Churchill, Winscombe and Sandford. You can find out more at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/banwellbypass
Funded by Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, Banwell bypass will also unlock land for future development, enabling new and affordable homes to be built.
Any new homes will be subject to the Local Plan, which is due to go out for its own public consultation on Monday 14 March. You can read more about the Local Plan online at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/newlocalplan
The Banwell bypass is expected to open in 2024.
