Parking spaces in the area have been separated into resident and visitor bays, with pay and display visitor charges in operation between 9am and 9pm and parking permits available for residents.

Councillor Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Placemaking and Economy, said: “This new parking scheme for Leigh Woods has been carefully designed with the help of local people to enable residents, commuters and other vehicles to share available bays more fairly.”
“I also hope that it can have a positive impact on local air quality by reducing traffic congestion, whilst also making roads through the residential areas safer for walkers and cyclists.”

The new pay and display meters have now been fitted in Leigh Woods ahead of the 28 February launch. Pay and display will allow commuters and other vehicles to park at a day rate of £6, or shorter stays at £1 per hour for up to four hours, providing more flexibility to visitors. Tickets can also be purchased online or by phone using the council’s MiPermit app.
For two weeks following the scheme’s launch, parking officers will take a ‘soft enforcement’ approach to help ease drivers into the new rules. During this time drivers may receive a warning notice for their first contravention of the new parking bays, before being issued Penalty Charge Notices for any subsequent infringements. All other restrictions such as yellow lines will be enforced as normal.
The scheme also includes plans to introduce EV charging points to the area. These will be fitted later in the year.
