An £80,000 scheme to improve the A369 Martcombe Road in Easton-in-Gordano starts this week.

The surface dressing work is being completed by North Somerset Council as a major part of its ongoing, low-cost annual maintenance programme. Surface dressing provides added protection to the carriageway surface as well as enhancing the skid resistance, making it safer to drive on. This added protection extends the life of the carriageway surface by up to 10 years.

The works will require four separate closures as the scheme will be carried out in phases. Phase one, to prepare the road for the surface dressing, will take place on Thursday 16 June between 8pm and 6am. Phase two will require a daytime closure on Sunday 3 July between 6am and 2pmto complete the surface dressing. Phase three, to seal the surface of the road, will require a daytime closure on Sunday 24 July between 6am and 4pm. The final stage will be the installation of road markings which will be completed from Monday 25 July for five nights between 8pm and 6am.

Cllr Steve Hogg, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for roads urged drivers to be patient while the work was completed.

"We appreciate that this scheme will cause some disruption on this busy route. We would ask drivers to avoid the area if possible and be patient while this essential maintenance takes place."

Surface Dressing is largely weather dependent and the dates listed may change.
