Learning and development

The North Somerset Children's Safeguarding Partnership offers a full range of multi-agency training opportunities. These aim to promote and reflect the principles of multiagency working, as well as provide a programme that reflects the Board's policies and priorities. 

The programme is agreed by the Learning and Development sub-group. Course content is regularly updated to take into account learning from Serious Case Reviews and national findings.

Inter-Agency Child Protection: Basic Awareness 

• course length: half day
• who can take it:
  • anyone who works or volunteers with adults or children in North Somerset who doesn't have an introductory course supplied by their employer
  • anyone who works for the council
• what it covers: signs to look out for and who to tell

Introduction to Inter-Agency Child Protection

• course length: 9AM to 3PM
• who can take it
  • whole children's workforce
  • designated safeguarding leads
  • anyone who needs to make decisions using the threshold matrix about single agency interventions and when to refer on.
• what it covers:
  •  the impact of parental issues on the well-being of children

Advanced Inter-Agency Child Protection

• course length: one day
• who can take it
  • those with an active role in Child Protection Investigations
  • designated leads
  • anyone needing a level three course (as per the intercollegiate document for health)

Advanced Inter-Agency Child Protection - Update 

• course length: half day
• who can take it - any  practitioners that need to refresh or update their inter-agency training

• Missing and return interviews

• Safer recruitment
• Domestic abuse - basic awareness
• Domestic abuse - advanced
• Inter-agency signs of safety
• WRAP
• Managing difficult conversations
