Preparing for adulthood - independent living (SEND)

As you get older, you may decide you want to move out from your home and find your own flat or move into supported housing run by a charity or the council.

The National Preparing for Adulthood website has useful information and tips to consider about housing and living.

Housing support

You can get a range of support to cover things like budgeting, paying rent, adapting a home for a disability and more.

There are ways you can get help to live at home and organisations like Cintre, the Brandon Trust and Alliance Homes can support you with housing.

If you are 18 and over (or 16 and transitioning with adult services), you could use our Connecting Lives service. Connecting Lives gives people with a learning or physical disability, mental health difficulties or other health or sensory disabilities the opportunity to live with a family in their home.

Financial support

There are certain kinds of financial support that you can use to help with costs of living, like personal budgets and direct payments.
