Choices consultation - Autumn 2020

The North Somerset Local Plan 2038: Choices for the Future consultation is running from 2 November 2020 to 14 December 2020.

It follows the Challenges for the Future consultation which took place this summer.

About the consultation

‘Choices’ is about looking at alternative approaches for new housing, employment and community. We want to make plans for the next 15 years that best reflect your priorities.

The government has identified a need for a large amount of housing in North Somerset, so this isn't going to be easy. But we are up for the challenge and are ready to make positive changes.

How to get involved

But we we need your help. In the next year, we will be making decisions on where and how new homes will be built.

We have opened this consultation to help us identify a preferred strategy for addressing the future needs in North Somerset. Once we have developed the spatial strategy, the next stage is to identify potential locations to deliver the growth required.

This will be set out in a draft plan which will be subject to further consultation next year.

Consultation questionnaire

We invite you to fill out our questionnaire and make your voice heard as part of this consultation.

Councillor Huw James explains in the video below how you can take part.

WECA spatial development strategy

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) is engaging on their spatial development strategy at the same time as the North Somerset Local Plan choices consultation.

This relates to a proposed plan for the combined area of Bristol City, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire (but does not include North Somerset). This is a separate plan but if you are interested in what is happening in the neighbouring WECA area you can view their survey on the West of England website.

The two authorities will be co-operating on the development of both plans.
