Active Travel Action Plans

This consultation is now closed for responses. The text and consultation materials are shown here for reference, including the full consultation report above.

In July 2021 we adopted our Active Travel Strategy (ATS). This agreed our policy approach to active travel. We committed to creating action plans to set out more specific actions for the council and our partners, to help make the aims of the ATS a reality, including a delivery plan for each of our Active Travel Action Plans and their improvement scheme proposals.

In this consultation we invited you to give us your comments, suggestions and feedback on any or all of our seven Active Travel Action Plans.

This consultation opened on Monday 9 January 2023 at 10am and closed on Monday 20 February 2023 at 10am.

Although emails and letters were considered when we updated the Action Plans following consultation, we stated we preferred to receive your responses via the questionnaire, so that we could review all responses in one place. All materials in this consultation have been designed to be accessible.

We want North Somerset to be a place where everyone has access to active travel choices.  Active travel refers to the movement of people or goods by using the physical activity of a person for movement. The most popular forms are walking/wheeling and cycling, but also includes running and scooting.

Our Aims:

  • Deliver safe and frequent active travel to enable improved public health,
  • Tackle the climate emergency,
  • Help residents address the cost of living crisis,
  • Drive local economic development,
  • Create liveable neighbourhoods with our communities and through the planning system.

As part of the consultation we also asked for valuable local knowledge from our communities to help review the draft street classifications for their area by providing feedback on these to their town or parish council. We've considered all responses received and updated the framework and classifications where appropriate. Any further questions or issues on this should be directed to the local town or parish council who can liaise with transport.policy@n-somerset.gov.uk.
