Eleven dynamic projects in North Somerset have been selected from over 40 applications to receive a portion of a £163,000 grant pot funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). 

At last night’s North Somerset Council Annual Council Meeting, Cllr Peter Crew was elected as Chairperson of Council for the year ahead. Cllr Crew takes over from Cllr Wendy Griggs who has held the position for the past year.

Businesses, community interest groups and charities are encouraged to apply now for North Somerset Council’s Net Zero Business Grants programme to improve energy efficiency, save costs and reduce their carbon footprint.  

During Foster Care Fortnight (Monday 13 May to Sunday 26 May), North Somerset Council is shining a light on the crucial service that foster carers provide to support vulnerable children and young people. 

Following a successful selection process, a new operator has been found to run the Victorian Café on Weston-super-Mare’s seafront.

A collection of 20 books and additional digital resources are now available to support people living with dementia in North Somerset’s libraries, as well as their carers, friends and family. 

Two thousand plants have been successfully planted at the floral clock in Weston-super-Mare. The work has taken just over a week to complete, and was carried out by the North Somerset Council’s grounds maintenance contractors, Glendale.

Essential pothole and gully repairs will be completed on The Portbury Hundreds (A369) on Monday 13 May.

North Somerset Council has appointed a team led by architecture practice We Made That to design solutions for three improvement projects in Weston-super-Mare. These are: Grove Park, Marine Lake and ‘wayfinding’, encouraging people to move around the town centre and seafront.

The third and final year of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) programme has begun helping residents and businesses gain new employment skills, obtain expert support and advice, create new opportunities, and build pride in their communities. 

Venue owners and managers across North Somerset are being urged to join a council scheme to help make sure the area has enough locations to use as rest centres in case of emergencies.

Hutton Moor Leisure Centre and Portishead Open Air Pool have both received funding for new power systems that will significantly improve their carbon outputs, making them greener and better for the environment.

A scheme to resurface the Broadway in Weston begins on Monday 13 May.

The Knife Angel arrived in Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Wednesday 1 May). The statue was officially welcomed to North Somerset with a short opening ceremony in the afternoon.
