The Old Town Quarry in Weston-super-Mare has closed today with immediate effect following recent surveys of the site which have identified serious structural issues with the buildings and associated health and safety risks.

An independent review regarding the recent active travel changes for Hill Road and The Beach in Clevedon will get under way next week. Led by transport design and engineering experts AECOM, the review will address concerns that have been raised by local people and businesses. These include the design and safety of the scheme, access for disabled people, and those living adjacent to the scheme and whether users understand the new arrangements. It will also look at any impacts on trade and parking.

People living in Yatton will have better access to public transport from next month when the X5 bus service between Clevedon and Weston is re-routed to serve the village. From Monday 4 September the bus will call on the village as part of its hourly service thanks to funding received from the Department for Transport to improve bus services in the area.

Film-goers will soon be able to enjoy a night out at their choice of cinemas in Weston-super-Mare as new owners take over the former Odeon building in the town centre. Following the building's closure two months ago, North Somerset Council has been in discussions with the Odeon regarding their plans for the future of the site and are pleased to confirm that Merlin Cinemas purchased the cinema earlier today.

Illegal tobacco worth £32,000 has been seized from premises in Weston-super-Mare as part of an investigation by North Somerset Council’s Trading Standards team assisted by colleagues from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
