The racing forms part of a competition hosted in four locations and fought out through eight races which this year will see the British team chosen for the upcoming World Championships in Vichy, France in September.
Weston Bay Watersports Club will host the opening two rounds with the club hoping to provide entrants in the Ladies, Juniors and the Tandem Formula three event.
The racing will again be the shortened 35-minute format rather than the 50-minute marathon and the circular course in Weston Bay will be completely visible for public viewing, with the officials and main commentary on Knightstone Island.
The boats will be at Marine Lake where a road closure will be in place and can be viewed after race completion. The boats will be launched via the Knightstone slipway, the entrance of which will be marshalled to protect the public on the promenade.
Richard Green, President of Weston Bay Watersports Club, commented: “Last year the weather was bright and sunny and the water reasonably calm, and the roar of the Formula One and Two boats echoed across the bay and promenade as they raced at speeds sometimes in excess of 100mph.
“The watching crowd were treated to some really close racing with the boats cornering at the Knightstone end of the course undertaking and overtaking and constantly changing positions. Should the weather not be kind the speeds will drop and the danger of falling increase, but the crews and competitors will still press on as the ability to ski in all conditions will play a major part in the world team selection.”
