Weston Beach Race revs up for its 37th year!
Families and petrol heads are invited to head down to the beach at Weston-super-Mare on the weekend of 18-20 October for the maddest and biggest motorsport event in the UK.
Organised by RHL Activities, riders from around the globe will compete against each other over two days of gruelling action-packed racing.
Every year Weston beach undergoes a massive transformation as giant mountains of sand are formed into a track of unbelievable difficulty for the brave band of riders.
Thousands of spectators will descend on the seafront to enjoy the action-packed racing, which pitches professional and amateur riders against each other on what is easily the toughest sand track anywhere in the world.
Competitors from as young as seven up to 70 years old will again tackle the giant sand dunes, some of which are the size of a house, as part of the six-mile track.
The self-pronounced world’s fastest rider ‘Ronnie Mac’, a motocross character who is well known for his incredible dirt-bike skills, is travelling from his home in Oklahoma, USA to make a special guest appearance at this year’s event. He will be joined by six-time beach race winner David Knight MBE, former European Motocross Champion Mel Pocock and five-time Enduro World Champion Steve Holcombe in the battle for beach race supremacy.
As well as the thrilling races to watch, there will be entertainment, food and drink stalls plus merchandise on sale making the event a truly great day for all the family.
“We’re looking forward to another exciting Weston Beach Race,” said Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL Activities. “We have a lot planned for this year’s event with an action-packed racing schedule combined with lots to see and do on the promenade – it’s going to be a great weekend for all of the family.
“We have a strong partnership with North Somerset Council and thanks to their progressive, forward thinking we’re able to keep expanding and improving the Weston Beach Race, which is now in its 37th year. Our mutual vision for this massive event, which attracts many, many people to the local area in what normally would be the ‘off-season’, is driven by a high motivation to deliver the best experience for spectators and racers alike. I’m sure the 2019 race will be an exceptional one and we can’t wait to get down to Weston-super-Mare to begin the event build.”
“We are extremely proud to host such a prestigious event,” said Cllr Caritas Charles, North Somerset Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism. “As well as being a fantastic spectacle, it provides a welcome boost for businesses in the town with hotels, shops, bars and restaurants all benefitting hugely at what would normally be a quieter time of year.
“After 37 years I think it is safe to say that Weston is the home of the Beach Race. Our wonderful beach is the perfect location for the event and I look forward to the council continuing to work with organisers RHL Activities to ensure it returns to Weston for many more years to come.”
