Urgent tree works on busy Weston road

A willow tree with large overhanging branches will be reduced in size this weekend.

The tree is close to Herluin Way in Weston-super-Mare and tree contractors working for North Somerset Council will be carrying out the work on Saturday 15 October between 7am and 3.30pm. A lane closure along the length of Hutton Moor sports fields will be in place.

This work can’t be carried out during the overnight lane closure which is currently operating along Herluin Way, due to the risks involved in dismantling a tree using rope, harness and chainsaws, and the need for adequate light levels.

One day will not be sufficient for the tree surgeons to finish the work to the tree, but the lane closure will enable the removal of the parts overhanging the road. The remaining  work will be carried out on Monday (17 October), affecting the Hutton Moor cycle and foot path only. Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to use the path.

While disruption will be kept to a minimum, the travelling public is asked to be patient while this urgent work is carried out.
