Shops urged to back new sustainable travel scheme

5:44pm - 15 December 2020

North Somerset Council is asking outdoor and cycling shops based in North Somerset to participate in their Sustainable Travel Voucher scheme.

The scheme is funded from money from new developments and encourages residents to try out active and sustainable travel. By encouraging residents to leave their cars at home, it aims to help reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

Residents from new developments taking part in the scheme will have the chance to purchase equipment for cycling and walking or bus tickets. Residents in qualifying developments will be contacted directly when the scheme is up and running. Not all new developments qualify.

Equipment for cycling could include a bike helmet or lights and walking equipment includes waking shoes or waterproofs.

Businesses interested in taking part should have a shop within North Somerset and should already stock equipment relevant to the scheme.

Any businesses interested in taking part should email sustainable.travel@n-somerset.gov.uk by Tuesday 5 January.
