Roadworks to shut North Somerset road junction
Update 11.25am, Wednesday 8 January: Due to the prevailing weather conditions predicted for tonight, the start of this scheme has been postponed. If weather conditions are favourable, then work will get under way tomorrow night (Thursday 9 January).
A busy Weston junction will be closed overnight for roadworks this week.
Milton Road in Weston will be shut from Hill Road to the other side of Ashcombe Road, including the junction, weeknights from Wednesday 8 January to Tuesday 14 January.
The £50,000 scheme, which is part of North Somerset Council’s road maintenance programme, will be carried out by contractor Skanska and will include road patching, drainage repairs and footpath resurfacing.
North Somerset Council’s executive member for highways, Cllr James Tonkin, said: “The quickest and safest way for us to carry out this vital maintenance work is to close the road.
“We are doing this overnight between 7pm and 6am as our traffic data shows this to be the quietest time.”
A signed diversion route will be in place and traffic marshals will be on site to help with property access during the work.
The number seven bus will also be diverted around the closure. Bus stops inside the scheme will be closed, but there are stops near each end that will remain open.
