£3,000 to help your staff and customers choose walking and cycling

12:06pm - 29 October 2020

Businesses across North Somerset are invited to apply for up to £3,000 in matched funding to help them implement on-site schemes to encourage walking and cycling.

North Somerset Council’s executive member whose portfolio includes transport, Cllr James Tonkin, said, “Previous successful grant applications have helped to fund initiatives such as cycle parking and shower facilities at A-Gas, electric bicycle parking at Solarsense, and a fleet of staff bikes for Bristol Airport.

“We know that each business is different and welcome applications for any scheme that will help a business encourage more of its staff, customers or service users to walk and cycle more; to leave the car at home more often; or to carry out its business in a cleaner, greener way.”

The grants are up to 50:50 match-funded and can be used in a variety of ways to improve cycling and walking-related provision on site.   With the help of the Government’s Access fund, the previous financial year saw 48 grant applications approved, with more than £86,000 of match funding from the organisations themselves.    The ‘Claim a Stand’ initiative is also currently open, where North Somerset businesses can claim up to five free bike stands to install at their own premises. Expressions of interest are also welcomed from companies keen to trial an electric cargo bike for their local journeys and deliveries.

Grant application forms and further information on the above are available at https://www.travelwest.info/businesses/north-somerset. All submitted applications will be reviewed, competitively assessed and processed on a first-come first-served basis.
