Poet Laureate Simon Armitage is visiting Clevedon Library this month as part of the 2022 leg of his ten-year tour of the UK’s libraries.

He will be at the library on the evening of Friday 25 March.

Clevedon is one of only nine libraries from across the country that the writer and broadcaster will be visiting during this year's leg of his Laureate’s Library Tour celebrating “the library as one of the great and necessary institutions”. The tour is based on the alphabet, with venues starting with C and D being visited this year.

"My experience of reading and writing began in the village library where I grew up, then in the nearby town library, then in libraries at various places of study and teaching," said Simon. "For many people libraries are an invaluable aspect of everyday life, giving access not just to books but to services, learning, conversation and creative thinking."

At Clevedon Library, Simon will be joined by West Somerset poet Phoebe Stuckes, four-time winner of the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award, for a poetry reading.

“This is exactly the type of event we should be promoting and supporting in our libraries," said Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council's executive member for neighbourhoods and community services. "We are privileged to attract this sort of interest to Clevedon Library.“

The event is being livestreamed via the Crowdcast platform. Free tickets for this can be booked at https://www.crowdcast.io/e/clevedon.
