Photographer sought to capture Weston's heritage enhancements

4:20pm - 13 January 2021

North Somerset Council is seeking a photographer to capture future historic enhancements to Weston's town centre.

Working with (HAZ), the £5,000 commission will include a portfolio of:

  • Building images that are part of the enhancement scheme
  • Work taking place on the buildings with before and after shots
  • Images that capture both the building work and the relationship between people, the building work and the community

Weston’s Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) now offers high street businesses within the Heritage Action Zone, a 75% grant towards shop front enhancement. The commissioned photographer will capture images from shops undertaking the enhancement scheme.

Working with Culture Weston, the images will be used to highlight the enhancement work within the town centre through community focused projects.

Cllr John Crockford-Hawley, Heritage and Regeneration Champion, North Somerset Council, said: “Following such a difficult year, this is an excellent addition to our HAZ project and will document the work taking place to revitalise an area that’s full of interesting post-war modernism and Victorian buildings.”

High streets across the country were given a total of £95m to revive historic high streets in 69 towns, with 10 in the South West. Projects will look to transform disused historic buildings into shops, houses and community centres. The funding will also help traditional businesses adapt to better compete with online outlets.
