Retailers and licensed premises selling age-restricted items can access a year’s subscription to ‘No Proof of Age No Sale’ sales training and resources, thanks to North Somerset Council’s trading standards team.

The No Proof of Age No Sale (NPOANS) toolkit is an interactive online resource developed by Trading Standards South West, a partnership of local authority trading standards services working together to promote and uphold consumer safety.

The free training and resources are available for retailers and staff who sell items or services with an age-restriction such as alcohol, tobacco products, tattoos, spray paints and sunbeds.

The offer is time limited, and businesses need to sign up before the end of March to take advantage of the offer.

Cllr Mike Bell, Deputy Leader of North Somerset Council and executive member for regulatory services, said: “I’d recommend all North Somerset businesses and retailers who sell age-restricted goods and services sign up to the No Proof Of Age No Sale resources.

“No matter what age-restricted products you sell, the resources are tailored to your business. They include guidance and training materials that are regularly updated to keep up with changes to the law.

“The resources are free to sign up for until the end of March. There are notes for staff and for trainers, a series of tests on the age-restricted products relevant to your business and support materials, such as age-verification posters, useful websites and samples of refusal registers. This is a great offer so make sure you take advantage of it and sign up for a year’s subscription before the end of March.”

For more information about the free service and to sign up go to www.proofofage.org.uk or email trading.standards@n-somerset.gov.uk.  The offer is for small and local businesses and is not available to national chains with more than 10 stores.
