More weight loss support

Three more weight management programmes are to be launched to help North Somerset residents achieve a healthy body weight.

North Somerset Council’s Public Health team, working with local partners, has already launched a number of local programmes and three more will be starting soon.

Cllr Mike Bell, North Somerset Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Health, said: “Having a healthy body weight can reduce your risk of a number of health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.

“I’m really pleased we’re working with local partners to making it easier for people to manage their weight and continuing with our commitment to tackling health inequalities across North Somerset, making our area open, fairer and greener.”

Each weight loss programme is free for 12 weeks and includes advice about diet, being physically active. People who take part will be supported to start and maintain healthier lifestyle habits.

To be eligible for the programmes people must live in North Somerset and be classified as above a healthy weight.

Details of the new programmes are:

‘Choose 2 Lose’ dedicated weight loss sessions for men which will run in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare, at

  • Oxhouse Gym on Winterstoke Road in Weston with an introductory session on Saturday 19 March from noon to 1.30pm and then weekly from Tuesday 22 March, 8pm to 9.30pm. To find out more and book a place visit https://www.theoxhouse.com/choosetolose

‘Fit Football Fans’ will also be starting in Portishead from Wednesday 6 April, to help football fans aged 18 years and over develop healthier eating and exercise habits.
