A £170,000 scheme to improve the A370 Bridgwater Road between Weston and Bleadon begins on Monday (29 November).

The work to complete carriageway patching will be carried out using a night closure between 8pm and 6am for 10 nights. The patching work needs to be completed ahead of road surfacing next year.

Work to improve safety on the road will also be carried out during the road closure.

The road will be closed in phases from the A370 junction with Uphill Road South to the North Somerset/Somerset boundary.

Phase one of the closure will take place on Monday 29 November from the Uphill Road South junction to the hospital roundabout.

The next phase will be carried out between Tuesday 30 November and Wednesday 1 December from the hospital roundabout to its junction with Fakeham Road.

Phase three of the scheme will see the road closed from Thursday 2 December to Tuesday 7 December from Accommodation Road junction to the North Somerset boundary.

From Wednesday 8 December to Friday 10 December, the road will be closed from the Uphill Road South junction to the North Somerset boundary.

Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for roads said the essential works would improve the surface of the road for all users.

"We appreciate that this scheme will be disruptive at night but this is an extremely well used route that needs to be maintained. We need to prepare the surface of the road for resurfacing next year.

"We would urge people to avoid the area if possible and be patient while the works are completed."

A signed diversion route will be in place.
