The Portishead community is being asked to have their say on the final draft of a plan that will help shape future development in the town.

North Somerset Council is asking local people, businesses and other stakeholders for their views on the final draft of the Portishead Neighbourhood Plan.

The document was submitted to North Somerset Council for examination on Monday 8 August by Portishead Town Council.

The plan has been prepared by the local community, with help and advice from North Somerset Council and other bodies including local businesses and environment groups.

The policies will be used to help make decisions on planning applications and to shape development in Portishead. The plan contains policies to protect the natural and built environment, the economy, housing and to promote a low carbon future.

The Neighbourhood Plan group has undertaken extensive consultation as part of the preparation of the plan and this is now the final chance to comment.

The documents are also available to view at Portishead library. The closing date for comments is 5pm on Friday 18 November.

Cllr Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for placemaking and economy said: "We would encourage the residents of Portishead to get involved in this important consultation that will help shape the future of the town.

Once the consultation is finished all of the responses and the Neighbourhood Plan documents will be passed to an independent examiner for scrutiny.

Now is the time to have your say on the future of Portishead."

Cllr Nicola Holland, North Somerset Council's ward member for Portishead West added: "We strongly urge Portishead residents to show their support for our Neighbourhood Plan. An adopted Neighbourhood Plan is essential to ensure that we have a say in the future of Portishead."
