This half-term there are plenty of free and low-cost fun activities happening across North Somerset to help make the pennies go further for families feeling the squeeze.

All library events are listed on North Somerset Council’s website (www.n-somerset.gov.uk/libraryevents) or check out the North Somerset Libraries Facebook page for more information.

A fun filled day of free activities and attractions is happening on Wednesday 26 October at The Castle Batch Children’s Centre and Family Hub in Worle between noon and 4pm.

Activities include giant garden games, arts and crafts, karaoke, drama and hula hoop dance workshops, an Avon Fire and Rescue fire engine, free bike security marking from Avon and Somerset Police, and visits from local sports teams including Somerset County Cricket Club and Bridgwater FC’s women’s team.

Cllr Ash Cartman, North Somerset Council's executive member for corporate services said: "If you’re wondering what to do with the children this week which is free or low cost but guaranteed fun, there’s a lot going on right here on our doorstep. We know it’s tough right now with high inflation and rising costs, but we’re here to support you. There are plenty of free events happening locally in our North Somerset Council buildings and local Facebook groups can also provide inspiration. And don’t forget that if you’re financially struggling right now, additional short-term support is available via our welfare provision scheme. Check out the North Somerset Council website for more detail.”

Cllr Catherine Gibbons, the council's executive member for children’s services added: "It’s great there is so much going on locally this half-term for families to enjoy. If feeding your family this week is a concern, help is available. Please do get in touch if you find you’re struggling. No child should go hungry. Food banks are up and running across North Somerset and the BBC has some great meal ideas for £1 per portion on its website. Money Saving Central has also created a very helpful round-up of places where children can eat free or for £1 next week, available at www.moneysavingcentral.co.uk/kids-eat-free.”

Anyone needing additional short-term support can find out more about North Somerset Council’s welfare provision scheme at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/wps.  Applications can be made by phone on 01934 888 035 or 0800 138 5665 (10am to 4pm Monday to Friday).
