Crosville Motor Services to withdraw local bus services

Crosville Motor Services have informed North Somerset Council of their intention to withdraw public bus services and school bus routes from Weston-super-Mare, with the last day of operation on Saturday 21 April.

The following local bus services will be affected by the change:

  • Service 100 – Sand Bay to Weston town centre (currently operated commercially)
  • Service 106 – Worlebury to Weston town centre via South Road (currently supported by the council).

First West of England will operate a new service 1 from Sand Bay to Weston town centre from Sunday 22 April. This service will operate hourly until Sunday 27 May, when the service frequency will be increased to every 30 minutes.

The council will be working to find a replacement for service 106 to ensure these areas are not left without a bus service. However, with budgets for bus services extremely limited, the council will need to identify solutions that can be achieved with the funding available.

Crosville operate two school contracts for the council to Worle and Priory schools. New contracts will therefore be procured and these are due to start from Monday 9 April, following the Easter school holidays. The council will be writing to families with details of the new operators once this information is available.

Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, North Somerset Council’s deputy leader and executive member responsible for transport, said: “It is unfortunate that Crosville Motor Services have taken this decision but we would like to thank them for their work delivering both school and public transport in Weston-super-Mare. I would like to reassure residents living in the areas affected that council staff will be working hard to find cost-effective solutions to ensure there is no loss of bus services in these areas.”

Crosville Motor Services began operating local bus services in Weston-super-Mare in 2011 and built up an extensive network of services in the town, before scaling back their business last year. Although Crosville will no longer operate local bus services or school contracts, their heritage business will continue.
