Council urges businesses to get in touch for business support grant

4:47pm - 04 May 2020

North Somerset Council is urging local businesses across the region to get in touch to receive the Business Grant Fund, a Government grant scheme available to businesses and individuals who have been affected by cornoavirus (COVID-19).

Cllr Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Business, Economy and Employment at North Somerset Council, said: “So far, we’ve seen millions being given to local businesses, but there are still organisations in North Somerset that have not taken advantage of this grant. We recognise this is a difficult time, and we want to help organisations get the financial help and support they need.”

Small business grants are support for small business, and businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. The grants are up to £25,000. The grant is not a loan and does not need to be paid back.

Business Secretary Alok Sharma said: “Small business owners up and down the country are facing challenges on a scale never seen before and the financial support package we have put in place reflects that.

“I am extremely pleased to see that North Somerset businesses have already received grants totalling over £24 million and I thank the council for its hard work. I urge any business that believes it is eligible but has yet to be contacted by their local authority, to make themselves known to them through the council’s website.”
