Closure of Cineworld statement from North Somerset Council

6:34am - 07 October 2020

Statement from Cllr Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Business, Economy and Employment at North Somerset Council:

“The closure of Cineworld is part of a nationwide plan that’s affecting sites across the country. Our thoughts are with those affected and we hope that this is a temporary closure. The council is talking with the managing agent of Dolphin Square to understand the impact on those working at the cinema and how we can bring forward new uses for the units. We’ll continue to work with Homes England to accelerate the delivery of development on the vacant site opposite Dolphin Square.”

With Covid-19 affecting the job market, the council is running a redundancy and skills support package, offering CV review, training and upskilling, career progression training, start-up business support and job searching. We’re here to help where we can, and encourage businesses struggling with making redundancies, individuals looking to upskill within their career or people who have lost their job to get in touch, there is support available for those who need it.”
