Children make ‘excellent progress’ at outstanding nursery

All children at Ashcombe Children’s Centre Nursery in Weston-super-Mare make excellent progress, according to a recent Ofsted inspection which once again rated the childcare setting as outstanding.

Ofsted visited the North Somerset Council run nursery at the start of July. During the visit the inspector observed activities and teaching, spoke to parents, met with staff and sampled paperwork.

The recently published report classes the nursery as outstanding, the best possible rating available, which it has now held for nearly 10 years.

The inspector praised all aspects of the nursery’s childcare provision noting that staff work to build strong partnerships with parents so that ‘children settle rapidly and are ready to learn from the outset.’

The behaviour of children at the nursery is described as ‘exceptional’ and ‘all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities or those who are learning English as an additional language, make outstanding progress from their starting points.’

The report also commends the management and leadership of the nursery, noting that teaching is of a ‘consistently high quality’, staff know the children ‘exceptionally well’ and managers provide ‘superb support for parents and children.’

Ashcombe Children’s Centre Nursery is one of three nurseries run by North Somerset Council and all are rated as outstanding. The other two are Early Birds in Long Ashton and Little Waves Community Nursery which is also in Weston.

Cllr Catherine Gibbons, executive member with responsibility for children and young people’s services, said: “This is fantastic news and I congratulate everyone at Ashcombe Children’s Centre Nursery for achieving yet another outstanding Ofsted rating.

“Parents and carers can be confident and proud of choosing Ashcombe Children’s Centre Nursery.”

Lucy Thie, Manager at Ashcombe Children’s Centre Nursery, added: “We’re delighted with Ofsted’s findings. It’s a real testament to the amazing staff team we have who put children at the centre of everything we do.”
