Changes to Weston seafront site

Alterations to the former putting green and miniature railway site at the southern end of Weston-super-Mare seafront will take place during April.

The old railway shed, which has been unused for some time, will be removed. The wooden building is in a poor condition and has become unsafe.

Three of the beach huts, which are not currently leased, will then be moved across the road from the promenade and relocated on the concrete hardstanding where the railway shed used to be.

These will be used for storage by the outdoor play company Play Wild! and the Friends of Weston Seafront.

Play Wild! have an annual lease to run regular supervised forest school activities for young children at the former putting green site.

Volunteers in the Friends group help to maintain the seafront and Beach Lawns area. Projects include cutting back greenery on the rockeries, helping with shed, seating and shelter upkeep, regular litter picks and marshalling seafront events.

If you would like to get involved with the Friends, either as an individual or as an organisation, contact the Seafront Office on 01934 626 982 or email helen.mitchell2@n-somerset.gov.uk.
