Changes to public meeting arrangements

4:54pm - 23 April 2020

Arrangements for holding public meetings of North Somerset Council committees are changing.

Cllr Ash Cartman, North Somerset Council’s executive member who has democratic services in his portfolio said: “Following changes to government rules as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, we’ll be using video conferencing to hold all upcoming public meetings ‘virtually’.”

This includes Full Council, Executive; Planning and Regulatory Committee; Licensing Committee; and Policy and Scrutiny Panels.

“I would like to say a big thank you to our IT team and democratic services officers who have made this new way of holding these meetings possible,” added Cllr Cartman. “It means that we are still open to public scrutiny and can be held to account.”

Councillors will use Microsoft Teams to take part in the meetings and make decisions on agenda items as required.

The meetings will be streamed live on the council’s YouTube channel

While there is no opportunity for members of the public to make a spoken submission at virtual meetings at the moment, written statements and petitions for meetings can be submitted by providing the full statement and emailing it to the address below by the usual public participation deadlines – that is by 12 noon the working day before the meeting.

All statements will then be published with the agenda papers on the council’s website and on the meetings app for councillors in advance. Any comments will either be considered later in the meeting under the relevant agenda item or, where appropriate, referred to the relevant executive member or director.

Email if you have any questions or if you wish to submit a written statement to a meeting.
