Bus service changes in North Somerset

A number of bus services will be changing in North Somerset from Sunday 24 April.

Following a review of the route, there will be significant changes to the A2 service operated by First West of England. The revised service will operate between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol Airport only with new services serving Nailsea, Clevedon and Portishead.

The route will also be changed in Weston to operate via the A371 and the new North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College, with Weston Railway Station, West Wick and Wolvershill Road no longer served.

The service will run hourly from approximately 7am to 7pm on Mondays to Saturdays (excluding public holidays). Late evening and Sunday journeys have been withdrawn due to low demand.

First West of England will operate a new service 6 between Nailsea and Clevedon to replace the A2 on this section of the route. Hourly buses will run Mondays to Saturdays (excluding public holidays) from approximately 7.30am to 6.30pm.

To maintain the link between Portishead and Nailsea, North Somerset Council has worked with bus operator Carmel Bristol to redesign service 88. The new service will be rebranded “The Circle Line” because of its circular route around North Somerset and will serve Nailsea, Portishead, Clevedon and Yatton as well as the surrounding villages.

Both services on The Circle Line will operate on Mondays to Saturdays, but not public holidays, from approximately 7.45am to 5.30pm. The 88C will operate in a clockwise direction every two hours, with the 88A running anti-clockwise at the same frequency.

The council’s Public Transport team and Carmel Bristol will be holding roadshows in Clevedon and Portishead to publicise the timetable changes and promote The Circle Line. Residents can pick up new timetable leaflets at these events at Clevedon Market in Queens Square, Clevedon on Thursday 14 April and Portishead Market off High Street, Portishead on Friday 15 April. Both roadshows will take place between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

Elsewhere in North Somerset there will be revised timetables operating on First services X2, X3 and X5 from Sunday 24 April.

From the same date, Crosville Motor Services will be taking over the North Bristol Commuter Coach service from The Kings Ferry. There will be changes to the route and timetable, but the key areas of Weston, Clevedon and Portishead will continue to be served.

Timetable information for all these services is now available on Traveline at www.travelinesw.com or on the service information pages of Travel West at www.travelwest.info. For up-to-date information about buses in North Somerset like our Facebook page North Somerset Public Transport.
