Internet access

All of our libraries have computers that you can use to access the internet, Microsoft Office 365 and more.

You can go to any library computer and log in with your library card and PIN. Ask staff for your PIN if you don’t know it. Under 16s will need to ask their parent or guardian for permission to use the computers.

It is free for members to use the library computers for a maximum of two hours a day. If you’re not from the area, you can join the library as a visitor with proof of ID showing your home address.

To book a computer in advance, contact the library by phone or by email. Booking is not essential.

If you are late for your booking it will lapse after 10 minutes and those 10 minutes will be lost from your daily allowance.

Free Wifi is available in our libraries, to anyone including non-members.

Connect your device to NSC-PUBLIC and accept the terms and conditions. Devices will automatically disconnect after 12 hours. 

Some libraries are able to offer support from our computer volunteers, they are able to help:

• build your basic IT skills
• support you to get online
• show you how to download digital resources e.g. eBooks, newspapers, or magazines 
• advise on how to stay safe online

You can use the library computers, or bring your own device along.

Search the library events to find out when volunteers are available. Please contact the library directly if you would like to book a time slot with a computer helper.

Remote help by phone or Zoom is available from computer helper volunteers, please ask your library for more details.

Instruction folders are available next to each computer.

• how to use a device
• online basics
• managing finances online
• office programs
• finding a job online
• staying safe online and many more

There is a module on Universal Credit to help anyone work out if they are eligible to claim and how to complete the application. The website can be accessed from library computers, or from your own laptop or tablet.
