About our parks and open spaces

We are responsible for around two million square meters of urban and rural green infrastructure.

These urban and rural spaces perform many different functions including formal and informal recreation, nature conservation, routes for sustainable transport, an educational resource, areas for flood risk management and enhanced settings for existing and new development. They have a key environmental, social and economic role within North Somerset.

Urban green infrastructure includes:

  • parks and open spaces
  • woodland
  • street trees
  • roundabouts and highway verges

Rural green infrastructure includes:

  • countryside and conservation sites
  • rhynes and watercourses
  • public rights of way
  • open countryside offering potential for wildlife and recreation
