Help with the home you own
Improving your home
Every home should meet the Decent Homes Standard – it should be warm, safe and dry. If yours doesn’t meet the standard, we may be able to offer you a loan of up to £15,000 to assist in works to your own home to carry out essential repair and maintenance, including:
- repairs to a leaking roof
- replacement of rotten windows or doors
- replacement boiler or heating system
- improved insulation
- work to deal with damp and mould
The loans are provided through working in partnership with Wessex Resolutions. For more information visit the We Care & Repair website.
For urgent repairs, such as a replacement boiler or an electrical rewiring job, a fast track loan scheme is available. You can find our more information on the Wessex Resolutions website.
We can help with adaptations to make it easier for you to live safely in your home if you are disabled. This could include:
- access improvements such as ramps, rails or wider doorways
- adapted bathroom facilities such as a level access shower
- adding a stairlift, step lift or through lift
- adapting a kitchen
- safety improvements or adaptions to heating or lighting.
An occupational therapist will assess what changes need to be made to your home and tell you what solutions are available.
If adaptations are needed, you can apply for a disabled facilities grant to pay for the works. You can find out more about this grant on the GOV.UK website.
If the cost of the works exceeds the grant limit of £30,000 or an assessment has revealed that you would need to make a high contribution towards the cost of the works, we may be able to offer you a low interest loan.
If you’d like to apply, contact Care Connect. If you would like to apply for someone under 19, contact our disabled children’s team.
