How to pay your Council Tax

There are many ways to pay your Council Tax. The easiest way is by direct debit.

Paying your Council Tax by direct debit

Direct debit is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to pay your Council Tax.

We’ll take 10 monthly instalments direct from your bank or building society on the first of each month. Your instalment-free months will usually be February and March. You don’t need to cancel your direct debit during these months. We’ll automatically stop taking payments until the new Council Tax year starts in April.

If you pay by direct debit we can quickly refund you if an error occurs. You can cancel your direct debit at any time.

We’ll let you know if the amount you need to pay changes.

Paperless billing is a quick and secure way to view your Council Tax bill online at any time. If you choose to switch to paperless billing you’ll be helping us to reduce costs, so we can continue to provide essential services to the people living in North Somerset.

Paying your Council Tax online

You can make one-off payments towards your Council Tax bill online. You’ll need your Council Tax reference number and your debit or credit card details. You can find your ten-digit Council Tax reference number on your Council Tax bill.

You can make a payment any time of day but if you make a payment after 6pm it will be credited to your account the next working day.

Paying your Council Tax by phone

You can pay your Council Tax by phone by calling 01934 888 121. You’ll need your Council Tax reference number with you and your credit or debit card details. You can find your ten-digit Council Tax reference number on your Council Tax bill.

You can make a payment any time of day, at any time during the year.

Calls are charged at the normal operator’s rate.

Paying your Council Tax at a payment kiosk

You can pay your Council Tax at one of our payment kiosks. You can find payment kiosks at the Town Hall and the For All Healthy Living Centre in Weston-super-Mare and our Castlewood offices in Clevedon.

Paying your Council Tax by bank transfer (BACS)

You can pay your Council Tax through your bank or building society account. You’ll need to make your payment to:

  • sort code 20-95-08
  • account number 73015939

Make sure you include your Council Tax reference number, so we know which Council Tax account to credit. You can find your ten-digit Council Tax reference number on your Council Tax bill.

Paying your Council Tax by standing order

You can pay your Council Tax by standing order. You’ll need to set up your payment to:

  • sort code 20-95-08
  • account number 73015939

Make sure you include your Council Tax reference number, so we know which Council Tax account to credit. You can find your ten-digit Council Tax reference number on your Council Tax bill.

Paying your Council Tax by post

You can pay your Council Tax by post. You’ll need to make a cheque or postal order payable to North Somerset Council and send it to Council Tax Payments, North Somerset Council, Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UJ.

You’ll need to write your Council Tax reference number, name and address on the back. You can find your ten-digit Council Tax reference number on your Council Tax bill.
