The show will be created by award winning studio SKYMAGIC, whose work includes the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and London New Year’s Eve.

A viewing platform opens at the Monster

A viewing platform has opened on the SEE MONSTER site to allow people the opportunity to get up close to the action as the Monster starts to take shape.

Opening dates and times may vary so please check the Facebook page @seemonsteruk for latest updates. Access will be through the Bay Café entrance into The Tropicana and is signposted. The platform is fully accessible.

SEE MONSTER arrives in Weston-super-Mare

SEE MONSTER, a decommissioned North Sea offshore platform that is set to become one of the UK’s largest public art installations, has arrived in Weston-super-Mare. The transformation of the platform is a world-first that aims to inspire global conversations about the repurposing of large industrial structures and design-led solutions to sustainable futures.

Update from SEE MONSTER

SEE MONSTER is a world first and we’re grateful for the enthusiasm and support of the council, businesses and local community in Weston to deliver this unprecedented project.

SEE MONSTER activities and events, developed from local people’s ideas, are taking place in and around Weston’s town centre this summer.

What is SEE MONSTER?

Weston-super-Mare has been chosen as the location for SEE MONSTER - the world’s first and only repurposed North Sea offshore platform, and the largest outdoor installation ever seen in Weston.

SEE MONSTER is one of 10 major creative projects commissioned by UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, a celebration of creativity taking place across the UK in 2022, designed to reach millions and bring people together.

It features free large-scale events, installations, and globally accessible digital experiences in the UK’s most ambitious showcase of creative collaboration.

SEE MONSTER will include:

  • planted gardens and a waterfall with places to meet
  • a fun and educational place which will focus on weather, climate change and green technologies
  • a dedicated outreach team with a science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM) focus.
  • theatrical and spectacular weather moments, with visitors being engulfed by gargantuan clouds that envelop the beast, or caught in a shower by a sudden burst of rainfall

The weather will form a strong narrative of SEE MONSTER, celebrating the unpredictability of the weather and British eccentricity.

Visiting

SEE MONSTER is free to enter.

Food and drink

There will be locally sourced food and drink available at the Tropicana, and we encourage visitors to discover the full range of hospitality options available in the town centre.
