The first phase of work to transform the Italian Gardens in Weston-super-Mare into an attractive, open space at the northern end of the High Street has finished. Funded by the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership, the next phase will include:
- improvement works to South Parade including widening pavements, safer crossing points and improving access for larger vehicles around the corners
- improving Spider Lane to create a pedestrian-friendly space, with stunning paving and an easy and attractive link to the seafront
- planting, additional bench seating and bespoke litter bins.
Pedestrian links between the square, seafront and High Street are being enhanced, creating an inviting continental-style square which will encourage activities throughout the year.
Features such as state-of-the-art lighting and a water feature have been incorporated into the design to create a stimulating, safe and accessible environment for all.
The Italian Gardens project is part of the Weston Town Centre Regeneration Programme that is delivering improvements to key development sites and positively encouraging investment within the town.
