North Somerset Home to School Travel Assistance Policy September 2020

This consultation is now closed. For results contact the contact named in the following text. For the record, these are the consultation materials.

The Integrated Transport Unit have been working over the last year to co-produce a Home to School Transport Policy with relevant supporting groups. The purpose of this is to develop an informative document which is easy to follow and informs parents and carers of all the details they need to know when determining whether they are eligible and applying for home to school transport.

Alongside development of the policy the ITU are undertaking extensive work to redesign and improve the following processes and procedures:

  • Determining eligibility
  • Journey care planning
  • Health and Safety Assessments
  • Training and support of Passenger Assistants
  • Integration with the EHCP process
  • Complaints Management
  • Providing online access to information for parents including maps, forms, guides.

The consultation will run from 8 January 2019 to 15 March 2019 allowing schools, parents, carers and any other stakeholders to comment on the revised policy via the questionnaire (closed). All comments will be recorded and will be available for scrutiny by decision makers before the final policy document is agreed by the Council’s Executive in June 2019. The policy document will be published in September 2019 for those applying for school placements for September 2020. Regrettably it is unlikely that individual responses will be possible.

The main findings from the consultation can be found in the report below. We thank everyone for their participation and feedback on the home to school transport service.
