North Somerset business rewarded for sustainable travel
A technology firm in Clevedon has been recognised for its commitment to sustainable travel at the annual travelwest Business Travel Awards, thanks in part to the work it has carried out with North Somerset Council.
Edwards, a leading developer of product solutions to the global electronic industry, were rewarded with a bronze level accreditation for their travel plan at the awards ceremony.
The company had previously received an accreditation in 2014 and this year’s achievement recognises the continuous improvement in sustainability for the 450 employees at the North Somerset firm.
Edwards have been working with the council’s sustainable travel team to implement electric vehicle charging points, provide an electric pool bike, offer information and instruction on local facilities, raise awareness of car sharing scheme and provide a cycle to work scheme.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, deputy leader of North Somerset Council and executive member with responsibility for transport, said: “I would encourage more employers across North Somerset to think about ways they can encourage staff to leave their cars at home. I hope more organisations will follow this example and look at how they can make it easier for staff to travel more sustainably.
“And this doesn’t need to be expensive schemes on a grand scale. Our sustainable travel team can provide advice about small changes that can be made such as installing more bike racks give staff more choices about how they travel.”
Tony Baker, Safety, Health and Environment Manager for Edwards, said: ““It has been a pleasure to work closely with the council’s sustainable travel team to achieve the travelwest bronze award for sustainable travel, however the journey (forgive the pun) doesn’t stop there. There are many other options we have yet to explore and we look forward to working closely with them in the future to improve the travel options for our employees.”
