Flowerdown Bridge roadworks
Updated Monday 19 March 2018
A section of the A370 in Weston-super-Mare will be closed for two nights next week while North Somerset Council carries out repairs to the road surface as part of its continuing commitment to maintaining the area’s roads.
Works on Flowerdown Bridge will start on the evening of Tuesday 20 March and are due to take two weeks to complete.
Due to the nature of the works the road will need to be partly closed to allow crews to work safely. The closures will be in place from 8pm to 5am.
On Tuesday 20 March, night one, the A370 Somerset Avenue heading into Weston from the M5 will be closed between Airport Roundabout and Hutton Moor Roundabout.
On Wednesday 21 March, night two, the A370 Somerset Avenue heading out of Weston towards the M5 will be closed between Hutton Moor Roundabout and Airport Roundabout.
A diversion route will be clearly signed each night. This will be via A370 (Herluin Way, Marchfields Way, Winterstoke Road), B3440 (Drove Road, Locking Road, New Bristol Road, Bristol Road), A370 (Somerset Avenue – unaffected section) and vice- versa.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, deputy leader and executive member for highways, said: “As well as repairing the road surface at Flowerdown Bridge, we’ll be using the closures to allow other works to take place. For example our street lighting team will also be carrying out maintenance works to the lighting columns on that stretch on road. This maximises value for money for council taxpayers and avoids further disruption from an additional closure in the future.”
