Reception, junior, secondary and year 10 transfers

Our online application system will be unavailable on Wednesday 20 December and Wednesday 3 January 2018. Apologies for any inconvenience.

For children starting school or transferring to junior, secondary or year 10 education in September 2018, applications will be open from 9am on Tuesday 12 September 2017.

Applications must be made to your home council regardless of where the school you want to apply for is located.

You should read the relevant parent guides before applying. They provide information about the application process, schools in North Somerset, definitions and tell you how to apply. If you’re applying for a school outside North Somerset, you should check that local authority’s school admissions web page for their parent guides.

Applying online

The quickest and easiest way to apply for a school place is online. This is because:

  • your application will not be lost in the post
  • you can submit your application, or make any changes, right up until the deadline
  • you will get an email confirming your application has been received
  • you will get an email notification of the outcome on national offer day
  • the online system can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • you can accept or decline your offer online

Parents/carers do not need a letter from our admissions team with the child’s UID number to apply online. Please follow the online process and click ‘No UID’ if you haven’t received one.

Deadline dates

The deadline for secondary, middle to upper and year 10 applications for September 2018 will be Tuesday 31 October 2017.

The deadline for primary, junior, and first to middle school applications will be Monday 15 January 2018.

Paper applications

If you are unable to complete an online application you can submit a paper application instead. You will be informed of your allocated school by letter. Letters are posted second class on national offer day, so it will take a few days to get to you.

Late applications

If your application is late it will be processed later in the year and you are less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools. You will not be able to submit a late application online. You must, instead, submit a paper application.
