Strategic flood risk assessment

The assessment helps us consider flood risk as a planning issue and also when designing highway drainage schemes and preparing for emergencies.

The assessment is a living document updated when the Environment Agency’s flood map changes or after successful challenges to the classification.

The Environment Agency’s flood zones show flood risk in the absence of flood defences. In practice, flood defences reduce the risks to people and property but defences may occasionally be breached or overtopped.
