Road improvement schemes
About road improvement schemes
We are committed to improving and maintaining North Somerset’s roads.
We’ve been allocated £788,000 for 2017/18 as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF).
The money is awarded for local transport improvements that aim to reduce congestion at key locations, improve access to employment and housing, and develop economic and job opportunities.
We intend to spend £588,000 supporting MetroBus, which is improving access to Bristol from North Somerset and reducing congestion on key commuter routes.
The remaining £200,000 will be spent on the North South Link road which will facilitate new housing and employment in Weston-super-Mare as well as reducing congestion on adjacent routes.
The funding will be used to finance currently unbudgeted elements of these projects.
Bids to the fund
We have also submitted two bids to the NPIF. One for a transport enhancement scheme in Weston town centre and another for a congestion relief scheme at Queensway in Worle.
