About the landlords’ energy-saving allowance

This allowance gives landlords a tax incentive to help with the cost of energy-efficiency improvements.

It is available to all landlords who pay income tax (excluding corporate landlords) and let residential property.

The scheme applies to expenditure before 6 April 2015 and allows tax relief of up to £1,500 per property, even if a landlord owns more than property.

Energy saving measures that qualify include:

  • cavity wall insulation
  • draught-proofing
  • floor insulation
  • hot water tank and pipe insulation
  • loft insulation
  • solid wall insulation
